Faith in God
Updated: Aug 20
Father God, thank you for Your Word that is full of life and truth. Thank you that as we read it today, You are also giving us the ability to do what the Bible says in the name of Jesus, Amen.
1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV)
Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I came to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Today's devotional is about the story of David. David was a shepherd who looked after his father's sheep. One day, his father asked him to take some food to his brothers who happened to be in the army at that time (1 Samuel 17:17). However, when David arrived where his brothers were, the children of Israel happened to be afraid because of a giant called Goliath. Goliath was big and sent many threats to the children of Israel telling them to give him a man to fight with him so that he would defeat him and take control over God's people (1 Samuel 17:23). When David heard these threats, he became bold and I believe faith arose on the inside of his heart for he said he would kill the giant. David was angry that this giant could say mean things that made God's people afraid.
You see, in David's heart God was bigger and more powerful to save His people when compared with any size of problem including this giant. That is the heart that God wishes for you to have when faced with a situation that may look impossible or difficult. God wants you to put your faith and trust in Him knowing that He is well able to help you with anything that may look hard or look like a big obstacle.
When God gave David the victory, it is good to remember that he did not have any special weapons. Goliath, the giant had swords, spears and all these kinds of weapons while David on the other hand only trusted in the name of the LORD of hosts and the giant ended up falling down dead to the ground before his face when he shot him with a stone. 1 Samuel 17:49 (NKJV) says, "Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth." - Amen.
Prayer: Thank you Father God that with You, all things are possible for there is nothing You cannot do. Just like David, every giant in my life has fallen down in defeat in the name of Jesus because the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel is on my side, Amen. Thank you LORD for victory
Invitation to salvation: If you would like to be born again by receiving Jesus, God's Son who gives Life to everyone by forgiving all your sins and by His wounds, you are healed. Please say this prayer with me;
"Thank you Father God for sending Your One and Only Beloved Son Jesus Christ who died for my sins on the cross and who was raised from the dead so that I could have Life. I receive Him today as Lord and Saviour of my life in the name of Jesus, Amen."
