1 Samuel 1:27-28 (NKJV)

  1. "For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.

  2. "Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD." So they worshipped the LORD there."

Amen, thank you LORD.

In the Old Testament, is a story of a man called Elkanah who was married to a wife called Hannah. Now, Hannah wanted to have a child but for the longest time she did not have one. Hannah and her husband had a custom where each year they went to the house of the LORD to pray (1 Samuel 1:7). The priest of the LORD's house was called Eli.

One day when she was sad she could not have a child, 1 Samuel 1:10 (NKJV) says, "And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish." Hannah asked God to give her a son and she promised God that if she had that son, she would give him back to God.

And God heard and answered Hannah's prayer and gave her a son and she "called his name Samuel saying, "Because I have asked for him from the LORD." (1 Samuel 1:20 NKJV).

We see that Hannah kept her promise for she told the priest Eli that she would lend the boy to the LORD as long as he lived as seen above in 1 Samuel 1:28. The priest took up Samuel as a son and he grew up in the house of the LORD. Later on, Samuel became one of the greatest judges and prophets in the land of Israel.

Just like Samuel, you too are God's child. You may not be staying in the LORD's house with a priest but your parents dedicated you to God when you were baby so you belong to God.

Also, just like Samuel, God has a plan and purpose for your life as well. God hopes just like Samuel, you will become all that He has created you to become.

In case you wondering, how do you know this plan for your life?

  1. Continue obeying your parents and listening to what they tell you.

  2. Continue to love your neighbour as you love yourself.

  3. Continue sharing and giving of what you have.

  4. Continue helping people at school and church, family, friends and neighbours.

  5. Continue going to church and continue to spend time with God reading your Bible and praying, AMEN.

As you continually give your heart to God, God will show you what to do and where He needs you just like He did with Samuel.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for this story of Samuel that is a reminder that You listen to prayer and keep promises as well. Thank you that just like Samuel, you have a plan for our lives. Samuel did not go out looking for it, but you made sure he found it through his heart of service and love for you. Thank you LORD for blessing me with this heart of love and service for you and for others as well in the name of Jesus. Thank you Father God that just like Samuel, I will live out the plans and purposes You have for my life in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

Invitation to salvation: If you would like to be born again by receiving Jesus, God's Son who gives Life to everyone by forgiving all your sins and by His wounds, you are healed. Please say this prayer with me;

"Thank you Father God for sending Your One and Only Beloved Son Jesus Christ who died for my sins on the cross and who was raised from the dead so that I could have Life. I receive Him today as Lord and Saviour of my life in the name of Jesus, Amen."
