The Bread of Life
Father God, we thank you for Your Word that gives us understanding and tells us more about Jesus, Your Beloved Son so we give you all the glory and praise in the name of Jesus, Amen.
John 6:47-50 (NKJV)
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, has everlasting life.
I am the bread of life.
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Did you know that Jesus, the Son of God is the bread of life? Once upon a time, thousands of years ago before Jesus came to the earth, God's people called the children of Israel left the land of their bondage, Egypt. On their journey to the promised land and home, God provided for their day to day needs. Some of the day to day needs He provided was food. God sent them food directly from heaven and this bread was called manna (Exodus 15:16). As any bread, this bread would go bad after some time. God gave them instructions that thos bread was not meant to be kept till the next day otherwise it would get worms and stink (Exodus 16:19).
The reason God gave His people food from heaven was because He loved them and wanted to meet their needs as they travelled to the promised land.
Many years later, God decides to show the world His love by sending His Son Jesus who came in the flesh to die for the sins of the world (John3:16).
However, before Jesus went to heaven, He said to us that He is the bread of life and any person who eats this bread will never die but they will have everlasting life. When Jesus speaks of bread, He does not meant that one eats His flesh. However, Jesus is referring to the Word of God which is found in our Bibles. So in case you are wondering, is God's Word food? - Yes, it is! In fact Jesus says whoever eats and drinks the Word will not be hungry or thirsty as well. So, not only is God's Word food but it is also living water that quenches our thirst (John 7:37) thereby providing life and healing.
Since the Word of God is so important in our lives, I would like to suggest a Bible reading plan that you can take on with your siblings or between child and parent. Develop a Word study plan where you the Word of God starting with the New Testament. For instance, you may choose to start with the gospel of Matthew and then read a chapter in the morning before you leave the house and another chapter in the evening before bedtime. That will make it two chapters a day and continue all the way till you get to the end of the New Testament. Then start this process with the Old Testament as well while sharing with each other any lessons and then praying together.
I'll end with this Word found in Matthew 11:28 (NLT)
"Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
Amen, thank you LORD.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for sending Your One and Only Son Jesus who is the bread of life and in Him we have rest. Thank you that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us so we come with open hearts Jesus to eat of the Word of God and to be consistent with reading the Word because in You, we have everlasting life and we will never hunger or thirst in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Invitation to salvation: As children of God, we are only able to eat the bread of life when we have a personal relationship to know Jesus, the Son of God. This is because Jesus died for our sins and gives eternal life and by His stripes we were healed. When we receive Jesus Christ, God draws our hearts to His heart to enable us spend time with Him.
If this sounds like you, please say this prayer with me;
"Thank you Father God for sending Your One and Only Beloved Son Jesus Christ who died for my sins on the cross and who was raised from the dead so that I could have Life. I receive Him today as Lord and Saviour of my life in the name of Jesus, Amen."
Prayer: Father God, thank you for each child and family member that just said this prayer and received Jesus into their hearts. Thank you LORD God that You are keeping them this day and all the days of their lives and nothing will snatch them out of Your loving hands in the name of Jesus, Amen.
